We’re honored to introduce the co-founders of Elpizo Therapy, Elvis and Ruth Baah-Gyebi, a passionate, compassionate, and dynamic couple deeply rooted in Ghanaian heritage and with global experience. Elvis hails from the Ashanti tribe and Ruth from the Ahanta/Nzema people. Though born in Ghana, their paths crossed in the United Kingdom and their shared vision for healing and hope began.
Affectionately known as Dr. Love and Sugar D, Elvis and Ruth have been joyfully married for over 32 years and are proud parents of three adult children. Seventeen years ago, they transitioned from the UK to Ontario, Canada, where their psychotherapy practice continues to flourish. Their faith has remained the foundation of their personal and professional journey, inspired by scriptures such as Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you… plans to give you hope and a future” and Isaiah 40:31, “Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.”
With over 50 years of combined experience, Elvis and Ruth are Registered Psychotherapists, Clinical Supervisors, and Trainers with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), Canada. They co-founded Elpizo Counselling Services (from the Greek word Elpizo, meaning Hope), a vibrant and diverse group practice now home to over 25 therapists and interns from a wide array of backgrounds and cultures. Together, they provide individual, couple, family, and child therapy meeting clients with a culturally responsive, empathetic, and strengths-based approach.
Their commitment to mental health advocacy extends well beyond Canada. They are a sought after speakers across Europe, North America and Africa. For the past 15 years, Elvis and Ruth have returned regularly to Ghana to give back to the community through mental health seminars, couples’ retreats, training programs, and collaborations with hospitals, faith-based organizations, and educational institutions. Witnessing the growing demand for accessible, professional, and culturally attuned mental health services in Ghana and across Africa, they launched Elpizo Therapy.
