Supporting Secondary & Post-Secondary Students
We understand the unique experiences of students in Ghana and across Africa, many of whom leave home at a young age to attend boarding schools. While this can foster independence and discipline, it also means navigating adolescence away from parental support and familiar comforts. This distance, combined with high academic pressure, identity exploration, and social expectations, can take a toll on a young person’s mental and emotional well-being.
Whether in secondary school or post-secondary institutions, students often carry invisible burdens that affect their self-esteem, focus, relationships, and academic success.
Our culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate counselling services are designed to help students:
- Cope with stress, anxiety, and low mood
- Manage academic pressure and time demands
- Navigate peer relationships, bullying, and social identity
- Build emotional literacy and resilience
- Make healthy decisions about their future and values
- Reconnect with self-worth and inner confidence
We highly respect and value confidentiality and privacy, ensuring that every student has a safe, trusted space to speak freely and seek support without fear of judgment or exposure. Our therapists are committed to maintaining ethical standards while building rapport and trust, empowering students to grow emotionally and thrive academically

What to Expect in Therapy
In the first 1–3 sessions, we will take time to get to know you, gathering background information, exploring your concerns, and identifying your goals. We will then collaboratively develop a customized treatment plan that suits your needs, personality, and context.
Our sessions are always client-centered, structured with flexibility, care, and intention. You’ll be supported, empowered, challenged, and encouraged as you discover new ways of thinking, feeling, and living that serve your best interests.
The fee could range between $190 - $200 for individual therapy. Fees vary depending on who you are seeing. We can offer local rate options based on your financial availability.
Fees are paid prior to each session. We accept Mobile Money and Direct bank deposit.
Each person’s needs are different. After the initial three sessions of intake, hearing your presenting issues, goals, assessments etc. your therapist will give you some feedback and discuss and guide you through the therapeutic plan and suggest the number of sessions you might need. Your treatment plan is not set in stone and could possibly be adjusted as outcomes are accomplished.
Therapy is a personal thing, and we always do our best to try and match you with a therapist who is skilled in the reasons that brought you to counselling. We appreciate that sometimes for one reason or another the connection does not work. If that happens, please give us a call. We can review your needs and look at other therapists that may be a better alignment to your specific needs.
Once you decide on counselling, complete the initial intake form, email or call us to request the intake form or request a consultation with Ruth, Director at Elpizo. She will discuss your needs with you and guide you through our process. Ruth has over 25 years of experience as a psychotherapist and a nuanced understanding of diverse challenges. Ruth takes the guess work out of client/therapist matching. Based on her analysis and your completed intake form, you will be assigned a therapist.
Elpizo Therapy currently offers virtual sessions only, making it easier for you to access compassionate and professional care from the comfort of your home or office whether you live in Ghana, elsewhere in Africa, or are part of the Ghanaian diaspora around the world.
